Tip: put a space between syllables and they auto-split onto beats. You can fine-tune below.
2 = long syllable (held), 1 = short. Spaces separate arkaan (feet).

Tap between letters to mark a syllable break. Each chunk fills one beat-cell in order
(right→left). Try to match the meter's syllable count — but the melody works either way.

How it works
You bring the words; this helps you find a tune. It never replaces your ear — it just
shows possibilities in shape, notes, and rhythm.
1 · Quick start
Type your مصرع and pick a bahr (or add a custom one).
Spaces auto-split it into syllables on the beat; tweak by tapping letters.
Choose Key (Sa) + Raag/Scale, then Generate melody.
Set tempo and meend, then Play. Edit arrows or try variations.
2 · The beat grid
A bahr's adad digits are the rhythm: 2 = a long syllable (held ~2 beats,
shown —), 1 = a short one (•). Spaces in the adad separate
arkaan (feet); the first beat of each foot is accented. The dropdown shows each
meter's arkaan since that matters more than the name.
3 · Splitting syllables
Put a space between syllables in the line and they map onto beat-cells
automatically. Tap between letters to add a break, tap a break to remove it. The
counter shows your split vs the meter's cell count — close is good, exact isn't required.
4 · Pitch & notation
Sa is your tonic (key); the Raag/Scale decides which notes are allowed and
the mood. Toggle Sargam ⇄ Western any time — it only changes the labels, not the tune.
5 · Contour arrows
→ stay on the note
↑ / ↓ step up / down
⇈ / ⇊ leap up / down
∩ arch (grace note above)
∪ dip (grace note below)
Click any arrow to change it. Style (Simple → Ghulam Ali) controls how much the
auto-generator leaps and ornaments. The line always resolves back to Sa at the end.
6 · Meend, tempo & pace
Meend is the slide between notes — left = abrupt jumps (square), right = smooth glide
(sine, the qawwali feel). It bends both the playback and the on-screen line. Tempo
sets the beat (tap it, or use a mood preset). Melody pace (½× / 1× / 2×) makes the
notes move slower or faster over that beat without drifting out of rhythm.
7 · Antara & playback
Antara repeats the line an octave higher (the classic ghazal lift) — shown as an
extra row and played after the main line. Loop, count-in, and the
metronome toggle are next to Play. Copy exports everything as text.
8 · Custom meters
“Add a custom meter” takes an adad like 122 122 122 122
(only 1s, 2s, and spaces). Name and arkaan are optional. It's saved in your browser and
marked ★.
